COLD WATER IS STILL CHEAP – But it won’t be for long. Here’s why:
We are running out. There are already large areas of the USA (obv. the world, too) with serious and MAJOR water problems. To see current (and appalling) drought maps of USA check out USA Drought Monitor: http://www.drought.unl.edu/dm/monitor.html
Water and sewer infrastructure; water mains, storage tanks, pumps, sewer pipes, are OLD. They are rusting, clogged and leaking. They are all about the same age – Yes, OLD! These must be replaced, at extreme expense. The US government will pay only for a decreasing percentage of replacement costs!
As water becomes more scarce and therefore more expensive, so too will water saving devices become more valuable, and yes, more expensive.
Contemplating it all now, experimenting now, and becoming familiar with and accustomed to water saving devices – low flow showerheads, faucet aerators, low flush toilets – will put you ahead of the pack when we finally recognize the problem and have to PAY for it.
WE JUST KEEP WASTE IT! We don’t appreciate what we have till it’s gone!
Building code changes associated with important water savings will take YEARS to change. As an example, consider the collection and appropriate use of grey water and rainwater, smaller diameter supply pipes for hot water.
There are many things you can do in your home, and with your behavior, awareness & care, to slow the flow!
Next: Saving hot water NOW! Why? BECAUSE “Hot water is 500 times more expensive than cold” TELL EVERYBODY!
